Handyperson (especially plumbers!)

Kelmarna Gardens is an organic community garden and city farm dedicated to building a healthy community and environment, and promoting sustainable living.

Kelmarna belongs to the community and is primarily run by volunteers, and everyone has something to contribute. We are looking for a handyperson for help with all the little and large repairs and projects that go on in our gardens and buildings. Things are made, things fall apart, and things are repaired. We need some enthusiastic fixers, tinkerers and creators to help us with this cycle! This work is an essential part of helping to keep our volunteers and staff safe and comfortable, the buildings in good nick, and the vegetables growing. At the moment, we are especially keen on finding handypeople to assist with some emergent projects- so there could be some interesting building projects to get involved!

As our farm Handyperson, you will be able to help us with a wide variety of tasks. Work could range from building to plumbing, fixing to painting, fencing to electrical. Recent handyperson work has included building a mobile chicken coop, fixing locks, building shelving, and irrigation repairs... There’s guaranteed to be variety, including big and small jobs, complex and simple projects - all skillsets are welcome, and you don’t need to be an expert in everything to be useful!

You will be supported by our on-site team. They will have priority jobs in mind, and be able to support you with tools and an extra hand from themselves or another volunteer if needed. We also support you with a shared lunch, made fresh from the gardens!

Requirements:

An enthusiastic attitude and willingness to abide by our Health and Safety guidelines.

Time commitment:

Handyperson work is flexible. We have staff on site Monday-Saturday, and are very open to individual arrangements. You may want to volunteer on a regular day each week, as and when it suits you, or we can give you a call when we need you. We are especially looking for Handypeople to assist with some of our emergent projects, so there could be some fixed term volunteering possible.

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
