Handyperson

Kelmarna is an organic community farm in central Auckland on a mission to transform our food system. We are dedicated to building a healthy community and environment, and promoting sustainable living.

We are looking for a handyperson to help with all the little and large repairs and projects that are needed on our farm and buildings. We need some enthusiastic fixers, tinkerers and creators to help us with this mahi! Work could range from building to plumbing, fixing to painting, fencing to electrical. Recent handyperson work has included building a mobile chicken coop, fixing locks, building shelving, and irrigation repairs. There’s guaranteed to be variety, including big and small jobs, complex and simple projects - a reasonable level of skill is required as we do not offer training. However you don’t need to be an expert in everything to be useful!

This work is an essential part of helping to keep our volunteers and staff safe and comfortable, the buildings in good nick, and the vegetables growing.

You will be directed by our on-site team who will have priority jobs in mind. Tools are provided. We also provide lunch, made fresh from the gardens and enjoyed together!

Requirements:

A reasonable level of skill required (we do not offering any up-skilling / teaching in this area). An ability to work independently, an enthusiastic attitude and willingness to abide by our Health and Safety guidelines.

Time commitment:

Handyperson work is flexible Monday to Friday (Saturday mornings are also an option in some cases). We are very open to individual arrangements. You may want to volunteer on a regular day each week, as and when it suits you, or we can give you a call when we need you. We are especially looking for Handy people to assist with some of our emergent projects, so there could be some fixed term volunteering possible.

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
