Food Sorting Superhero

Our volunteers work out of our Hub in Avondale hand sorting healthy and nutritious surplus food supplied by our donor organisations to be redistributed to our recipient charities who then go on to make up food parcels for their clients.

Our trucks arrive at our Hub with the rescued food about midday, and then it's three hours of picking through boxes to separate the good from the funky. You'll sort through over 2 tonnes of fresh foods.

Our volunteers are trained to determine food which is ‘fit to eat, fit to cook and fit to compost’.

Requirements:
  • Hardworking with reasonable physical fitness
  • Able to hand carry loads of 20kg throughout shift
  • Ability to work as part of a team with people with a diverse group of people
  • Able to understand instructions in English
  • Able to work unsupervised
Time commitment:

Food sorting goes from 12:00pm - 3:15pm.

Every kg of food we save from landfill can make three meals for someone who needs them. Hunger is in our backyard, and we are grateful to the people who want to help.
