Hosting Inclusive Table Tennis special needs programme volunteer

Our vision is to create a supportive and fun environment for around 100 special needs students from eight secondary schools. Our aim is to develop concentration and hand eye coordination skills of participating students by introducing table tennis to them. The programme runs every Tuesday morning during school time. Every week we deliver the programme to around 18 students from 1 - 2 High Schools

Requirements:

Each school will have two sessions per school Term. Each session starts with a light warm up and some stretches

Following the warm up each volunteer will take one student to a table. Depending on the specific motorical ability of the student the volunteer will work on some basic table tennis or coordination skills

At the end of the programme the students will return some shots from a "table tennis robot" where they aim to hit some targets that are placed on the table. The programme concludes with the handing out of certificates to some of the students

Time commitment:

The programme begins in early March and concludes at the end of November. The programme runs every Tuesday from 10.00am - 11.30am during school time. We ask that volunteers commit to attending a minimum of 10 sessions during the year

As a token of appreciation, volunteers can use the Auckland table tennis stadium on Tuesdays from 10.00am - 12.00pm during the school holidays free of charge for practice (when there are no table bookings for events)
