Baby Item Sorter/Packer - Saturday Mornings
We support 1,000's of newborn babies and families in real need, who are unable to purchase or access the basic necessities needed for their newborn child to thrive during the first critical year of life.
Donors from the Auckland community donate and drop-off their pre-loved baby items to us every Saturday from 9-10 am (excluding public holiday weekends). We need general volunteers to help safety check, sort, pack, label and store all donated clothing and baby gear as part of a volunteer team. This includes setting-up, packing-down and ensuring the storage unit is kept tidy. The aim of this role is to 'quality control' items received.
We provide 1,000’s of high quality, pre-loved (and new), baby essentials to assist Auckland families with children living in poverty - to nurture their babies and keep them safe and warm. These items are distributed through our partner organisations who work closely with families experiencing hardship and serious life challenges every day. You will have the opportunity to develop skills/networks, have fun in a casual team environment and make a real difference to newborn families in need.
As part of your induction process, you will be given the relevant information needed to ensure you fully understand your role. During your first few shifts, you will ‘shadow’ and work alongside another volunteer who will provide training to help you learn and carry out your role. You will receive ongoing support and supervision from your Team Leader during your shifts. You will receive general support from your Manager.
This role will give you the opportunity to move into other volunteer roles where appropriate, e.g. leadership roles where you can manage your team during your shift. General admin support/research roles working from home. Marketing/Promotional support. Other activities such as helping with stock-takes, weekday sorting days, events, distribution etc.
Must have interest to support babies in need. Must be physically fit as small amount of light lifting, bending and carrying of goods is required. Need to have sufficient English language skills to participate in training and communicate with other volunteers / staff from diverse backgrounds.
You will need to complete a Littlemore application form and an agreement form before you start. An induction/orientation will be provided. You will be given an introduction to Littlemore and your role. This will include everything you need to know to get you started. You will be introduced to the team on site during your induction/orientation, meet your Manager and discuss any questions you may have.
Saturdays from 8:50am to 11:00am, once every 4 - 6 weeks. A minimum commitment of 8 months is required. We are closed during Christmas/New Year school holiday period. This means you will volunteer approximately 7 - 10 times per year from early February to mid December, but can volunteer more if you wish.
