Horse Leaders and Sidewalkers
We provide therapeutic horse riding for members of our community with disabilities and we are looking for people to assist as Horse Leaders and Side Walkers. 1 or 2 side walkers (depending on the rider's needs) are required to walk alongside each rider assisting the rider to follow instructions given by the coach. Riding a horse is an enjoyable form of healthy, outdoor exercise, and an exciting, challenging activity with amazing therapeutic benefits for our riders.
You will be working with the experienced coaches running our program and training is given to all our volunteers in line with NZRDA standard training programs. The health and safety of our volunteers and riders is always a priority and new volunteers will work alongside our coaches and with experienced volunteers. It’s a great way to meet new people, learn some new skills, benefit from some outdoor exercise all while helping enrich the lives of people with disabilities in our community, plus its very rewarding and fun!
A reasonable level of fitness is needed as well as a caring, fun attitude. Horse leaders need to feel comfortable leading our horses, so some horse experience is needed for this role.
As you will be working with vulnerable members of our community a Police Check will be required.
We operate during school terms only. Monday from 8:30am to 1:30pm and Thursday from 8:45am to 1:00pm. We have 3 rides each day. If you are not able to stay for all rides we would still like to hear from you, we are grateful for the time that you can offer.
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
