Youth Mentor
What makes mentoring with Pillars Ka Pou Whakahou so special is the impact it has on both you and your mentee. Our mentors often describe their experience as deeply fulfilling, not just because they see their young person grow, but because they become part of a community.
Right now, tamariki and rangatahi are waiting to be matched with someone who will encourage them, laugh with them, and explore new experiences together. As a mentor, your role is simple yet powerful: be a consistent, trusted adult and spend time doing activities you already enjoy.
You don’t need qualifications. You don’t need all the answers.
You just need to care, show up consistently, and be willing to walk alongside a young person.
Our mentors see mentees once a fortnight for a minimum of a year. We also put on multiple mentoring events throughout the year, where you can meet other mentors and the children meet other young people just like them. Our mentoring team is with you every step of the way, offering monthly supervision with other mentors, education and advice throughout your entire journey.
We require a full NZ driver's license, access to a car and a police check as part of the process.
Mentors spend 2-6 hours with their mentee once every fortnight. Activities can be as simple as playing sports, going to the park or the beach, or sharing a favourite hobby. You would also need to commit to attending monthly supervisions which fall on the last Thursday of every month from 6:30pm - 8:00pm in Grey Lynn.
