Youth Mentor

We are actively looking for more male mentors to walk alongside young tāne in our community. Many young tāne have been waiting over a year to be matched with someone who can be a steady, askable, trusted adult in their life.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you could make a difference, the answer is yes!
Mentoring isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being present. It’s grabbing a burger, passing the rubgy ball around, playing games, going for a walk, or teaching them something you love. Simple moments that create a sense of safety, belonging and hope.
You don’t need special training or qualifications.
All you need is an open heart, a few hours every fortnight, and the willingness to show up. Our team provides full training, ongoing guidance and a community of mentors who support each other.
If you’ve ever thought, “Could I be that person?” the answer is yes!

Requirements:

Our mentors see mentees once a fortnight for a minimum of a year. We also put on multiple mentoring events throughout the year, where you can meet other mentors and the children meet other young people just like them. Our mentoring team is with you every step of the way, offering monthly supervision with other mentors, education and advice throughout your entire journey.

We require a full NZ driver's license, access to a car and a police check as part of the process.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Mentors spend 2-6 hours with their mentee once every fortnight. Activities can be as simple as playing sports, going to the park or the beach, or sharing a favourite hobby. You would also need to commit to attending monthly supervisions which fall on the last Thursday of every month from 6:30pm - 8:00pm in Grey Lynn.

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
