Youth Mentor
There are young people in South Auckland waiting to be matched with a mentor, some of them have been waiting over a year, especially young tāne.
Volunteer mentors are everyday adults who care and are willing to share a bit of their time. Mentoring looks like shooting hoops, grabbing kai together, trying something new in your neighbourhood. Simple moments that help a young person feel seen, supported, and excited about their future.
You don’t need qualifications or experience because we provide full training and wraparound support.
What matters most is your heart, your consistency, and your willingness to walk alongside a young person.
We especially welcome male mentors, as many boys in our community have been waiting a long time for someone to connect with.
Pillars Ka Pou Whakahou supports the tamariki with a parent in prison to create positive futures for themselves. Your time could be life-changing for a young person in your community.
Our mentors see mentees once a fortnight for a minimum of a year. We also put on multiple mentoring events throughout the year, where you can meet other mentors and the children meet other young people just like them. Our mentoring team is with you every step of the way, offering monthly supervision with other mentors, education and advice throughout your entire journey.
We require a full NZ driver's license, access to a car and a police check as part of the process.
Mentors spend 2-6 hours with their mentee once every fortnight. Activities can be as simple as playing sports, going to the park or the beach, or sharing a favourite hobby. You would also need to commit to attending monthly supervisions which fall on the last Thursday of every month from 6:30pm - 8:00pm in Grey Lynn.
