North Shore Riding for the Disabled - Side Walker/Horse Leader
We require up to three volunteers to assist per rider, one volunteer to manage the horse (experienced horse person) and up to two side walkers that walk along side the horse to hold and oversee the safety of our riders.
Initially the interested volunteer comes along to observe what we do. Once all necessary documentation is completed, they are taken through an induction process and placed with an experienced volunteer to learn how we operate. All our sessions are supported and supervised by our Coach. Volunteers never work alone and will be working with other experienced volunteers.
The applicant needs to be fit and able and who enjoys mixing with other people and being social. Must feel comfortable working with people with disabilities and be confident with horses. Reliability is important as is an ongoing commitment during term times.
Volunteers can attend on any of our riding days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the school term. Starting at 8:30am to 2:00pm approximately, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and from 8:30am till about 11:00pm on Thursdays. We would like a commitment for one day per week on an ongoing basis. Due to traffic and time restraints this would suit people living North of Auckland
