The Power of Peer Mentoring

Peer mentoring combines the benefits of one to one mentoring with the power of peer to peer learning. It uses the best learning resource an organisation has – its own people and doesn’t rely on the presence of an expert in the mix – a mentor. Peer mentoring provides increased levels of personal and professional support for people and this in turn impacts on both the quality of work and the quality of relationships within their team.
How does it work?
Groups of between 4-6 people meet on a regular basis and use specifically designed tools that tap into the inherent knowledge, experience and wisdom within the group. The tools present a simple, structured process for mentoring that builds the high levels of trust and synergy necessary. The structured approach ensures absolute value for time from the mentoring process – a typical session is between 1 – 1.5 hours for 4 or 5 people.
The Power of Peer Mentoring Training
There are a number of things that can and do go wrong if individuals are left to lead their own mentoring process and maintaining the quality and effectiveness over time is a challenge.
This workshop will
- Introduce the concept of peer mentoring
- Identify common pitfalls for peer mentoring groups and how to avoid them
- Introduce the peer mentoring toolkit – 7 tools for mentoring groups
- Provide opportunities for participants to experience the power of peer mentoring through small group practice and coaching.
This step by step toolkit is easy to learn. In one training workshop, participants leave with everything they need to run effective peer mentoring group sessions for themselves
