BNZ Training Workshops with Age Concern

24 Jun 2012 | EVP

As part of the BNZ ‘Closed for Good’ employee volunteer day a team of four staff from IT went to work with the staff at Age Concern Counties Manukau (ACCM). The BNZ team ran a workshop with ACCM to upskill staff in the use of Microsoft Office and Excel.

‘The team were organised prior to the day and had worked out their roles. This showed that each had thought about and even prepared, what they would teach us, prior to their arrival. Their patience humour and involvement with us as we worked our way through often simple procedures was truly appreciated. We also appreciated the handouts they provided and these will allow us to follow up the things that we were taught. Our staff fed back:

I was very impressed at the volunteers’ willingness to look for information to answer our questions – ‘no I can’t answer that’ is not something we ever heard!

Fantastic day!, Great enthusiasm by all made it such a success. A lot was taken in and I look forward to seeing some of the results in the next few months.

No matter how much or little we knew prior to the training day, we all learned much more than we expected to.

I found it invaluable. SHORT CUTS are something you garner over long periods of working in the field, not your average text book tip. Certainly not in the abundance they were explained at the IT workshop. Those four representatives of the BNZ were more than just a credit to their organization but their ability to grasp what we were trying to achieve and suggest extremely valuable SMART improvements. Ten out of Ten.

Our sincere thanks to the BNZ team and the Volunteering Auckland team for making this happen – it was truly an invaluable experience!
