Companion Volunteers

The focus of our Friends of CHT Volunteers is on companionship: spending time with residents to form meaningful relationships. Volunteers offer a listening ear, company while doing activities, and a warm, friendly face each time they visit. We look for volunteers who have initiative, are willing to make a commitment, and (most importantly) have kind hearts.

CHT Healthcare Trust has over 60 years’ experience taking great care of older people at our network of rest home, hospital and dementia care facilities.

The fantastic support from volunteers enables us to provide all the services our residents and need, helping us to make a real difference to the lives of hundreds of people.

As a charitable trust, we are truly grateful for each volunteer that brings their passion, skills, and precious gift of time.

Most of all, we look for kind-hearted volunteers who are willing to give some of their time to help others. Other skills that can be useful (but are by no means required!) include musical ability, fluency in different languages (including sign language), and confidence to facilitate activities for residents. To help us keep our residents and staff healthy, volunteers need to be fully vaccinated (double dose) for Covid-19 and be in good health at the time of their visits. Volunteers are also required to wear masks when volunteering and may need to complete a rapid antigen test on entry to the care home (these are provided free of charge).

A Police background check is required for this role.
