Connecting People with Parks - Watea Reserve

Watea Reserve is a two hectare size park nestled in the heart of Sandringham off Haverstock Road. The reserve has been looked after by the community (Grow Sandringham community group) for some time as it features a community orchard area. In recent years property acquisition has provided a small developing Wetland area (being helped along by local residents) and has an adjacent area of bush with a beautiful walking trail and boardwalk added in the last two years. The bush has got a few weeds to tackle but it’s definitely worth it. This project is part of our Connecting People With Parks programme, in partnership with Auckland Council, which runs every second Tuesday and sometimes over the weekend. On this programme volunteers come to our offices ready typically for an 8am departure and we then take you out in our van to the project and return you no later than 3pm. If you prefer you can also meet us onsite. For all our projects you are assisted by a qualified team leader who guides you through the tasks and can help you to identify and learn about native species of fauna and flora and conservation. Tasks range according to the season and the specific needs of the park.

What to bring: Gumboots or closed toe shoes, appropriate clothing, rain and sun protective gear. We provide all tools and equipment needed for each activity. Limited transport available, make sure to book your seat. Please note: Children 12 years and under are to be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
