Volunteering at Selwyn Centres - Activities and Companionship
Selwyn Foundation is an independent, Christian faith based registered charity providing services to older people and their families. Selwyn Centres are a partnership between Anglican parishes and the Selwyn Foundation to offer social activities, gentle exercise, a varied events programme, laughter and fun, morning tea, and practical advice. We welcome people of all faiths (or none) and backgrounds.
Volunteers should be kind, empathetic, friendly, interested in people and their stories, non-judgmental and mature. Volunteers need to be reliable, must have patience, common sense and a sense of humour. Good communication skills are required and a very good standard of conversational English, as some of our guests have difficulty with hearing and communicating. Any creative talents are a plus but not necessary. A first aid certificate would be beneficial, however basic training can be provided. A Police background check is required for this role.
All centres operate on weekdays. The exact day and time will vary according to each Selwyn Centre. Most sessions are once a week between 9:30am – 12 or 12:30.
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
