Head Usher for Tim Bray Theatre Company shows
The Head Usher role involves leading one or more new volunteers each day in preparing the theatre and managing the show, undertaking the following roles: vacuuming the theatre and foyer before and after the shows, showing audience members to their seats, watching the shows while helping audience members come and go safely as required, helping evacuate the audience during an emergency, and assisting with poster sales after the show. The Head Usher will work with the guidance of the Audience Host to ensure the smooth running of the front of house. Lunch is provided for our volunteers. Full training is provided.
For Health and Safety reasons, our Head Usher must be 18+. This job is suitable for wheelchair users, and can be adapted for different levels of physical ability. We do require a good understanding of English, and the ability to communicate well in English in case of an emergency. Our audience members are predominately children of all backgrounds and abilities, and our volunteer ushers are people of all experience levels and ability, so enjoyment of working with a diverse group of people is expected. Strong leadership skills and the ability to teach others with kindness and enthusiasm is a key part of the role.
There will be two opportunities to sign up for at least one week at a time. You're welcome to sign up for more than one week, but you must be able to attend every day of your chosen week(s) as we'll be relying on you to learn the day to day procedure and then help support new volunteers each day. Times are 9:30am - 2:30pm, Monday-Saturday, with some small variations. Our show is in the last week of the school term and the first week of the school holiday.
Week 1: 3 July from 3:30pm-7:00pm, and 5-10 July from 9:30am-2:30pm. The additional day is for our Gala opening performance
Week 2: 12-17 July from 9:30am-2:30pm
