Client Support for Asylum Seekers and Refugees

We have a role available at our Blockhouse Bay hostel that involves providing support for our clients. Tasks could be transporting clients and assisting clients with appointments e.g. IRD, Doctors, Bank, Shopping. Advocacy work on behalf of clients at WINZ, banks, and teaching how to use public transport or go shopping. Sorting donations and helping with deliveries and pickups, and assist the Client Services Manager with administrative tasks.

ASST works to create a safe and supportive environment for asylum seekers and convention refugees in New Zealand. We provide access to information, services and resources so that those seeking asylum may effectively pursue the determination of their refugee status, and thrive in their new home. We also provide re-settlement support for individuals who have had their refugee status approved to help ensure successful integration into local communities.

Requirements:

Own transport. Empathy and understanding for people from different cultures.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

3 hours a shift, once a week.
