Community Assistant for Safari Multicultural Playgroups

We are looking for community assistant to be part of the team at Papatoetoe Safari. Our playgroups provide a supportive and inclusive environment where the families can have fun playing and learning together, an opportunity for mothers to improve their English and make new friends in a multicultural environment. We need a community assistant to give support to the playgroup leader in the smooth functioning of daily activities, especially in setting up activities for kids. This role comes with professional development opportunities in Early Childhood Education.


For this position, you will need to be passionate about playing and interacting with young children, doing play set ups and getting to know the Mums and families. A person who loves children and is happy to engage with them and help them learn and grow would be essential. You will also need to have empathy towards refugee and migrant groups. In addition the assistant needs to be extremely reliable, have good initiative and be culturally sensitive. Previous experience in working with children is desirable. Residing in the local area would be an advantage but not essential. The ability to speak other languages is also an added advantage. Criminal background and reference checks are a prerequisite. Placement may take place while the criminal check is being done however reference checks will be done prior to placement.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Three days a week Wed Thursday and Friday from 9am to 12:30 pm
