Activity Assistant for Fall Prevention Classes

The Staying Upright in residential care program delivers upright activity to residents in care homes around Auckland, currently in Albany, Hillsborough, Wiri, St Johns, Blockhouse Bay, New Lynn, Wattle Downs, Red Beach. An opportunity for volunteer support is offered to assist with the running of activity classes twice weekly. A physiotherapist runs the group, however there is need of assistance in ensuring that the residents make it to the exercise room, to assist with the exercise (this is an opportunity for the volunteer to participate) under the watchful eye of the physio and returning the residents to their room after the class. The staff in the care homes and the physiotherapist will be the key people you will be working with.

Requirements:

This opportunity would suit people of any age who are interested in care homes and older people, and fall prevention exercises. Someone who can provide some encouragement to the elderly to get to a class at the right time, and is available at specific scheduled times twice a week. There are several care homes involved around greater Auckland and thus matching locations will be important.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Classes are for one hour twice weekly at several sites around the Auckland region. Care in matching the location to your location and the timing to be convenient will be needed.
