Hand sewing Blankets

We are an ever changing community group, that hand stitch beautiful blankets for kids in need across Auckland. We bring people together, we teach each other, and we help kids to stay warmer so they can be healthier. We are a lovely group of about 8 to 15 people that meet every week - come in and say hi or join our team ongoingly, at the Mt Albert YMCA.

No requirements needed, although a little knowledge with basic sewing is useful. We will teach you anything you need to know, we just need your time. There are fabrics to be cut, tea to make, folding and pinning fabrics, felt shapes to cut, bags to organise. We set up the rooms and pack everything away together.
There are two main hand stitches we do. Running stitch and Blanket stitch. We use embroidery thread and keep everything colourful.
(If you are keen you could google how to do blanket stitch, esp starting and finishing off.)

Time commitment:

We meet every Thursday for 2 hours, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Mt Albert YMCA, 773 New North Rd.
we don’t sew over the summer holidays....Jan, feb and March.
