Communications Team Member

Coastguard Northern Region's Operations Room based at the Auckland Marine Rescue Centre at Mechanics Bay in Auckland is crewed 24/7. The staff are a mix of paid and volunteer roles but the demand for volunteers is greatly increased during the weekends and summer months. The Communications Team Member role is to support a comprehensive response to safety and rescue on the water through provision of information and communication services in a professional and efficient manner. The volunteer will operate as part of a team in providing an effective delivery of service to Coastguard Northern Region’s stakeholders and partner agencies in line with international best practice and the highest standard.

There will be on-going professional training within the Operations Centre training framework and at monthly training evenings, aiming to achieve a level of at least Leading Radio Operator.


Must be highly reliable and be able to prioritise activities. Have the ability to manage multiple tasks and time constraints effectively. Stay focused and pay close attention to detail. Must consistently be able to complete time-sensitive tasks on time.

As we are an emergency service a Police Check will be required.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

We are looking for a minimum of two six hour shifts per month after an initial 6 session induction training. In addition to this there will be one training evening per month. This role requires an ongoing commitment.
