Native Forest Restoration

With 4000 native trees to plant this season we need lots of support! Most of our sessions are in the Onetangi Reserve but some sessions also in Atawhai Whenua, Matiatia.

We will demonstrate to you how to perform the tasks and are always happy to answer your questions, talk about the job or conservation work.

Our sessions run on Saturday's from 10:30-3ish. You will need to catch the 9am ferry from Downtown Auckland to Matiatia, Waiheke Island. Please arrive 25 minutes early so you don't miss out as this ferry can sell out. This is not the Sealink ferry from Half Moon Bay.

Atawhai Whenua reserve is within easy walking distance from the Matiatia ferry. On the days we are working in Onetangi reserve (which will be most of the time this year) we will need to pick you up from the Matiatia ferry or using your Hop Card you can bus part of the way to the Onetangi Four Square/Petrol Station.

Fullers have offered us complimentary ferry tickets to assist you in the ferry cost. If you need a complimentary ticket we will issue you a number and upon arrival at the Auckland Fullers ticket office you'll verbally give this number at the ticket office to receive your physical return-ferry ticket. Groups of more than four people will need to purchase their own ferry tickets as we only have a limited supply to go around.

Requirements:

Previous conservation/outdoor experience helps but is not necessary. Moderate level of fitness is required with the ability to work as a team and receive instructions.

We take your safety seriously but there can be hazards to be aware of such as uneven ground, sharp tools and unpredictable weather. Please be mindful of others working around you.

We have a Health and Safety form for you to sign on arrival please.

Your shoes will sprayed with 70% methylated spirits - 30% water and any soil brushed off upon arrival to prevent kauri disease establishing on Waiheke.

Things you will need to bring are your gloves (if you have them, otherwise we have spares) good footwear, warm clothes, hat, possibly a raincoat, your lunch and drinking water. Long pants and sleeves are good protective clothing too, it can get cold and windy there so we dont want you getting sick. We will provide all the tools you will need to use. Access is easy from the road and the terrain is not too steep.

Time commitment:

Usually the sessions run on Saturday's from 10:30am-3pm with a lunch-break in-between. For team groups we can try and accommodate sessions any day of the week around the same timeframe. I will send out emails on the Wednesday before a weekend session so you have time to organise.
