Senior Day Centre Helpers (open to youth)

General volunteers provide support at our weekly centres [MAIRANGI BAY, ALBANY] for isolated elderly. We require help with setting up prior to the session and packing up afterwards, help preparing morning tea and lunch, assisting with hobbies, crafts and activities.

Our organisation strives to improve the quality of life of isolated and vulnerable elderly by providing weekly companionship, social interaction, games, outings and physical activities at centres located in the North Shore and Hibiscus Coast areas. Our Centre Supervisors are assisted by dedicated volunteers who deliver a programme that aims to provide for the physical and emotional well-being of our guests.

WE ARE REALLY LOOKING FOR PEOPLE AT MAIRANGI BAY (Mon) only at present. Short term volunteers welcome.

Requirements:

Empathy with older and disabled people, reliability and punctuality, good listening skills, a sense of humour, and the ability to work as member of a team.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Once per week from 9:30/10.00am - 12.30 pm during school term times. We are closed during school holidays.
Mairangi Bay and Sunnynook runs on a Monday, Albany and Birkdale run on a Tuesday, Red Beach runs on a Wednesday, Belmont, Glenfield and Stanmore Bay run on a Thursday. We are looking for a minimum of a three month commitment ideally. We are also seeking drivers - please see our other advertisement.

NOTE - we do require volunteers to attend important training sessions (e.g. First Aid) once or twice per year - mileage and lunch offered
