Whanau Transport Driver
Help is needed to provide transport for families/whanau wishing to visit loved ones in prison in Auckland including: Auckland Mens' Paremoremo, Auckland Women's Correctional Facility Wiri, Auckland South Corrections Facility in Wiri, and Mt Eden Correctional Facility. This provides families a way to visit and maintain social and emotional contact with their loved ones in prison, which would otherwise be impossible due to financial limitations or public transport not on route near prison. You have the opportunity to join a team of volunteers who provide this immeasurable support. All transport costs reimbursed.
Training provided on: Confidentiality, Boundaries & Commitment, History of PARS, Overview of Auckland Prison/Orientation, Safe Visiting, Paperwork/Supervision/Reimbursement. Monthly supervision available.
Volunteers must be over 21 years of age and have a full valid NZ Driver License with access to their own transport. Must be reliable and non-judgmental, punctual and personable. Have a good listening skills and have patience.
As the volunteer will be working with vulnerable adults and children a Police Check will be required, Corrections Third Party Clearance Application, and two character referees. PARS Volunteer Introduction Training is compulsory.
Visits are usually between 9:30am – 11:30am and 1pm – 4pm. You will need to include travel time to and from the whānau home. A commitment of twelve months is preferred. We are seeking drivers for Monday to Friday and weekends.
