Asylum Seekers Support Trust
ASST works to create a safe and supportive environment for asylum seekers and convention refugees in New Zealand. We provide access to information, services and resources so that those seeking asylum may effectively pursue the determination of their refugee status, and thrive in their new home. We also provide re-settlement support for individuals who have had their refugee status approved to help ensure successful integration into local communities.
This is a visiting programme for Asylum Seekers detained at Mt Eden Prison or at the Mangere centre. It will involve an induction process to allow you to visit the detainees at these facilities for regular visits once a week on a weekday afternoon.
We are looking for support for our refugee clients based at our Blockhouse Bay hostel. The role will involve a variety of tasks from advocacy work, sorting donations to providing transport.
We need someone to help transport our clients to community events e.g. trips to the beach, yoga classes, English classes, concerts, and events etc. We have an 8 seater vehicle to be used for this. Will be a fun and interactive role with our clients
Help with our Community meals, organising ingredients, helping preparation and organisation. May involve taking clients to shops to get ingredients, helping with the preparation, learning new ways of cooking, and helping serve food and organise clean up.
We receive deliveries of donated food items that need sorting into individual boxes for families we support, which then need organising pick-up and delivery. This is an opportunity to make a real difference to new refugee arrivals.
We have a garage where we store our large donations - beds, couches, whiteware, cabinets etc. and we are looking for volunteers with a current NZ drivers license to assist with the pickup and delivery of donated items for our clients.
