"Volunteering in Aotearoa"
This DVD, the third in a series entitled "Volunteering Beyond the Stereotypes" will be of interest to migrants, refugees, and agencies that work with volunteers. It is a DVD on migrants volunteering in Aotearoa/New Zealand and the variety of volunteering opportunities available to them.
"Volunteering in Aotearoa" initially aims to promote volunteering to new and old migrants in New Zealand in an undated fashion. It aims to emphasis firstly the benefits that volunteering can be to migrants in particular. It will focus on how it can help them to gain roots in their community, meet new friends and gain new connections, improve their English skills and contribute to the community that has welcomed them into the country. The piece will motivate migrants to become involved, and stress the importance of migrant volunteers to community organizations, making them feel as though they are a much needed part of the equation. This piece will also aim to dispel any stereotypical ideas surrounding migrant volunteers that community organizations may have and break down any barriers between them and the organizations in need. It will also create understanding of how volunteering is a part of the kiwi culture and way of life.
